PRB: 2744 Error In Lcsetup.exe During Unsuccessful Installation If the System Path is Missing System32\WBEM (820458)


The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

You cannot successfully install Application Center 2000, and you receive the following error message:
Error 2744, D:\PF\AppCenter\lcsetup -install logcons.dll experienced an internal error.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the LCSetup.exe program cannot find Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) modules.

This typically occurs if the entry for System32\wbem is missing from the Path entry of the server system variables.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem by adding a Path entry in System Variables, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start on the server desktop, and then right-click My Computer.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Click the Advanced tab, and then click the Environment Variables button.
  4. In the System Variables list, scroll down and select the Path entry.
  5. Click the Edit button.
  6. In the Variable Value box, add a semi-colon (;) as a separating mark.
  7. After the semi-colon, add the entry: %System Path%\System32\wbem where %System Path% is the volume where the operating system is installed.

    For example, a default installation of Windows 2000 is in C:\WINNT.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Try to install Application Center 2000 again.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
