Computer Stops Responding or You Receive "Ehshell.exe - Common Language Runtime Debugging Services" Error Message When You Perform Repetitive Tasks in Media Center (820121)

SYMPTOMS

When you perform repetitive tasks in Media Center on a Windows XP Media Center Edition-based computer, the computer may stop responding (hang), or you may receive the following error message:
ehshell.exe - Common Language Runtime Debugging Services

Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

Process id=0xa18 (2584), Thread id=0xa24 (2596).

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you perform one or more of the following repetitive tasks in Media Center :
  • You schedule TV shows to record.
  • You repeatedly resize, minimize, or restore the Media Center window.
  • You repeatedly change the channel while Media Center is in a window.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft for systems with processors equal to or greater than 2.4GHz and certain specific features, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article.
