Database in Works 2.0 for Windows Truncates Descenders (82197)
This article was previously published under Q82197
SUMMARY
The Microsoft Works version 2.0 for Windows Database clips the lower
portion of letters such as g, j, p, and y. This problem affects screen
display only; characters with descenders print correctly.
MORE INFORMATION
This problem is caused by the way Works 2.0 for Windows scales fonts
to produce a "what you see is what you get" (WYSIWYG) document. Works
2.0 scales screen fonts according to the font metrics of similar
printer fonts. Although this process generates a WYSIWYG document, the
on-screen display is not exact. Truncation of the descenders results
from rounding errors.
This problem is most apparent with the 10-point Arial font; however,
other fonts (especially other TrueType fonts) may be affected.
