SYMPTOMS
When you open an Excel workbook that contains a PivotTable
report, you may receive the following error message:
Unable to read file.
When you click
OK,
you receive the following error message:
Errors were
detected in 'filename.xls', but Microsoft Excel was
able to open the file by making the repairs listed below. Save the file to make
these repairs permanent.
PivotTable report
'report_name' on
'[filename.xls]worksheet_name' was discarded due to
integrity problems.
After you click
Close to close
the error message, the PivotTable drop-down fields do not appear. Additionally,
if you try to open the file again, Excel quits.
RESOLUTION
Service pack information
This problem is corrected in Office XP Service Pack 3.
