PRB: When You Change Your Language Setting, Your Parental Control Settings Also Change (819847)

SYMPTOMS

When you change the language settings on your set-top box from English to Spanish, or from English to Portuguese, your parental control settings change.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Portuguese and Spanish have three ratings to select. However, English and the test language have eight ratings to select.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Set up three set-top boxes to use the following language settings:
    • DCT 1700: Spanish
    • DCT 1000: English
    • DCT 1200: Test Language
  2. Set the parental controls on all three set-top boxes to the following restrictions:
    • rating: Adult
    • channel: ch 10
    • purchase: PIN required
    • adult title: Hidden
  3. On the DCT 1700, change the language setting from Spanish to English.

    The parental controls change so that Adult, NC-17, and R/TV-MA are selected.
  4. On the DCT 1000, change the language setting from English to Spanish.

    The parental controls change so that no rating is selected.
  5. On the DCT 1200, change the language setting from Test Language to Portuguese.

    The parental controls change so that no rating is selected.
