PRB: Users May Experience Long Delays When They Visit Web Sites (819839)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft TV Advanced 2.0

SYMPTOMS

Users may experience slow response times when they try to gain access to Web sites.

CAUSE

This problem might occur because heavy Internet traffic slows server response time. The servers can only handle a limited number of requests at one time. The requests that the servers cannot handle are put in a queue to be processed later. The response time increases as the size of the queue increases. When the response time increases beyond the timeout period of the client, a timeout message appears.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, upgrade your server hardware to process more requests in less time. This solution will improve response time. However, response time will continue to be slower for Web sites that experience heavy traffic.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
