BUG: Grayscale graphics are printed as CMYK output in Publisher 2003 (819584)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office Publisher 2003
- Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 with Digital Image Pro
Notice
SYMPTOMSWhen you print a publication that contains grayscale (8-bit)
images, those images separate as cyan, magenta, yellow, black (CMYK) builds.
Therefore, instead of appearing on only the black plate, the images appear on
the cyan, magenta, and yellow plates also.
This symptom occurs
whether you print color separations directly from Microsoft Publisher, or print
them as composite CMYK, and then use another program to separate the
publication. CAUSEThis behavior occurs because Publisher treats grayscale
images as 24-bit red, green, blue (RGB) images, and then separates them
according to its built-in RGB-to-CMYK color profile. This profile separates
most grayscale images as CMYK builds.WORKAROUNDIn Publisher, recolor the image(s) to black, or to the rich
black of your choice.
- In Publisher, open the publication.
- Right-click the image, and then click Format
Picture.
- In the Format Picture dialog box, click
the Picture tab.
- Click Recolor.
- Do one of the following:
- In the Color list, click the black
swatch, and then click OK.
- If you want to use a rich black instead, follow these
steps:
- In the Color list, click
More Colors.
- In the Colors dialog box, click
the Custom tab.
- In the Color Model list, click
CMYK.
- Type the values that you want for the
Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and
Black fields.
- Click OK three times.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a
bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to"
