MORE INFORMATION

The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service manages the Exchange Server 2003 store, where you can store mailboxes, public folders, documents, files, and applications. The Exchange Server 2003 store uses the following two types of databases:
  • Mailbox stores
  • Public folder stores
These databases are organized into storage groups. If you are using Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition, each server that is running Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition can have one storage group. If you are using Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition, each server that is running Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition can have up to four storage groups. Each storage group can contain up to five databases (either mailbox stores or public folder stores). Storage group names cannot be greater than 64 characters in length.

For additional information about Exchange Server 2003 storage groups, view the Information Storage topic under Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 on the Contents tab in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Help.
