The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows XP
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows 2000
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows Millennium Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows 98 Second Edition

SUMMARY

URL commands that use relative paths that point to parent folders are no longer permitted under Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series.

MORE INFORMATION

The following path is no longer permitted under Windows Media Player 9 Series:
..\videos\myvideo.wmv
However, the following path is permitted:
.\videos\myvideo.wmv
Because you may experience security issues if the player calls to a parent folder (..\), this behavior has been specifically blocked. Content that is called by using a relative URL must be located in a folder that is at or below the level of the current folder. You might also have to move a content folder so that it is at a lower level than the folder that it is called from.
