You receive the "SharePoint has not been configured properly for Project Server" error message when you try to install SharePoint Team Services (818876)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project Server 2002
  • Microsoft Project Web Access

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft SharePoint Team Services from the SharePoint Configuration Wizard in Microsoft Project Server 2002, you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Project Server: SharePoint Configuration Wizard Setup error:

SharePoint has not been configured properly for Project Server for unknown reasons.

Setup will restore SharePoint to its original state.

You can also run the setup program again to configure the existing SharePoint Server.

CAUSE

This issue may occur for the following reasons:
  • This issue occurs because the Internet Protocol (IP) Address to the Web site for SharePoint is a Virtual IP Address that corresponds to a second network adapter on the server.
  • This issue may occur if the data components have not been updated.

WORKAROUND

Each cause that is listed in the "Cause" section of this article has its own workaround.

Workaround: Virtual IP Address Cause

To work around this issue, temporarily change the IP Address to the Web site to All Unassigned until the SharePoint Configuration Wizard is complete:
  1. Click Start, click Run, and then type Inetmgr in the Open box.
  2. Click OK.
  3. Right-click your Web site for SharePoint Team Services, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Web Site tab.
  5. In the Web Site Identification section, on the IP Address drop down menu, click All Unassigned.
  6. Click OK to close the Properties menu.
  7. Expand the Web site where you first tried to install SharePoint Team Services.
  8. Locate a folder named MS_ProjectServer_PublicDocuments.

If the folder exists, right-click the folder, and then click Delete.
  9. Start Setup.exe from the Project Server CD.

Click SharePoint Configuration Wizard to provision, and then click SharePoint Team Services for Project Server.

Note If you have previously installed SharePoint Team Services and extended the site but did not run the SharePoint Configuration Wizard, you may receive the following error message:
    Failed to Create Database Role
Click OK until the error message disappears. The Database Role was previously created; the Wizard is now trying to write the database role.
  10. After the Wizard has completed, you will receive a confirmation screen stating the Server Name, Web Server Port, SharePoint Administration Port, Database Server Name, and Database Name.

Make note of the information that appears on the confirmation screen.
  11. Finish connecting SharePoint Team Services to Microsoft Project Web Access.

    See the More Information section.
