A "Win32 Error = 1072" error message appears in the Hman.log file after you change the Systems Management Server 2.0 Service account of a secondary site (818837)

SYMPTOMS

After you change the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2.0 Service account of a secondary site by using the SMS Administrator console on the parent primary site server, an error message that is similar to the following appears in the \SMS\Logs\Hman.log file on the secondary site server:
Install the SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER under the new service account. $$<SMS_HIERARCHY_MANAGER><Do Apr 17 12:55:57.765 2003 W. Europe Standard Time><thread=1712 (0x6B0)> Cannot install SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER under the new service account and password, Win32 Error = 1072. $$<SMS_HIERARCHY_MANAGER><Do Apr 17 12:55:57.765 2003 W. Europe Standard Time><thread=1712 (0x6B0)>
The Hman.log file may also contain an additional message that is similar to the following:
Failed to re-install the SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER under the old service account, you must run setup to reset the site. $$<SMS_HIERARCHY_MANAGER><Do Apr 17 12:55:57.781 2003 W. Europe Standard Time><thread=1712 (0x6B0)>

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you can perform a site reset by running the SMS 2.0 Setup program on the secondary site server and by changing the SMS Service account to the new service account.

To perform a site reset on the secondary site server, follow these steps:
  1. Close any SMS Administrator consoles that are open.
  2. Click Start, point to Programs, click Systems Management Server, and then click SMS Setup.
  3. Click Next two times, and then click Modify or reset the current installation.
