  • Microsoft Host Integration Server 2000 SP1
  • Microsoft SNA Server 4.0

SUMMARY

COMTI (COM Transaction Integrator for CICS and IMS) logs Event 102 messages to report various exceptions that may occur during COMTI transactions.

Exception 1434 is reported when a COMTI timeout expires.

The following example shows the type of information that is included in an Event 102 message when such a timeout occurs:
Event Type: Error
Event ID: 102
Source: COMTI
Category: General
Date: date
Time: time
User: user
Computer: computer name
Description:
(102) COM Transaction Integrator reported the following exception to the client:

Component: COMTI component
Method: COMTI Method

Exception description:
(1434) The time out period for the method elapsed and no reply was received. Condition code = 00000000. If 0, timeout was normal. If not 0, it represents an error (GetLastError) encountered while waiting.
The Event 102 does not include the Remote APPC LU (Logical Unit) name or the name of the host TP (Transaction Program) being when COMTI is using LU 6.2.

Note The specific COMTI exception that occurs is detailed in the Exception description portion of the message.

This article discusses fixes for both SNA Server 4.0 and for Host Integration Server 2000.

MORE INFORMATION

You may find it useful to know the Remote LU name and the host Transaction Program (TP) name for troubleshooting purposes in COMTI environments that use LU 6.2. An update is available that adds this additional information to Event 102 messages that are logged by COMTI when using LU 6.2.

The timeout that is referenced in the Event 102, Exception 1434 event message is configurable in the COMTI Remote Environment (RE) properties within COMTI Manager. By default, the timeout for COMTI method calls is infinite.

Apply it only to systems that specifically require it. This feature may receive additional testing. Therefore, if the system is not severely affected by the lack of this feature, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft SNA Server 4.0 service pack that contains this feature.

To obtain this feature immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services. When you apply the SNA Server 4.0 version of the update, you have to follow these steps.
  1. Back up the current versions of Cedrmsgs.dll and Tranlu62.dll.
  2. Copy the updated versions of Cedrmsgs.dll and Tranlu62.dll to the COMTI directory.
  3. Open a command prompt.
  4. Go to the directory where the updated Tranlu62.dll was copied to.
  5. Run the following command to register the updated tranlu62.dll:

    regsvr32 tranlu62.dll
Note With the Host Integration Server 2000 version of the update, you do not have to follow these steps because the hotfix installer automates these tasks.
