INFO: Banyan VINES and AppleTalk Protocols Are Removed from MDAC Redistributable Installer (818520)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Data Access Components
SUMMARY The Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.7
redistributable installer contains files for communicating with the database by
using Banyan Virtual Integrated Network Service (VINES) and AppleTalk
protocols. However, the MDAC 2.8 redistributable installer does not contain
files for Banyan VINES and AppleTalk. This article contains information about
Banyan VINES and AppleTalk protocols. These protocols are removed from the MDAC
2.8 Redist Setup Program. The third-party products that are discussed in this article are
manufactured by companies that are independent of Microsoft. Microsoft makes no
warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding the performance or reliability of
these products.
MORE INFORMATION AppleTalk and Banyan VINES protocols are used on a
communications network system that interconnects computer workstations,
printers, shared modems, and other computers. AppleTalk and Banyan VINES
protocols are removed from the MDAC Client Redist Setup Program because they
are proprietary protocols that are not owned by Microsoft. Also, these
protocols are security-scrubbed, and are not used by most customers.
Users who are interested in using these protocols may have to access the
information from the respective product family. REFERENCESFor more information about Microsoft Data Access
