Cluster Node Remains Paused After Exchange Server 2003 Setup Quits (818471)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 on a server cluster node, that node changes to Paused mode. However, if you cancel the installation, or if Setup unexpectedly quits, the cluster node remains paused.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because when you cancel Exchange Server 2003 installation, or when Setup quits, the cluster node remains paused so that a partially installed Exchange virtual server does not fail over to the other cluster node. This allows you to restart Setup or to completely remove any installed Exchange Server 2003 components before you resume from Paused mode.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, restart Setup to install Exchange Server 2003. If you do not want to install Exchange Server 2003, remove the Exres.dll file (if it has been copied to the cluster node), and then resume from Paused mode.
