The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional
  • Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition
  • Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition
  • Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite

SYMPTOMS

When you have a Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite attached a Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 port, you may not be able to resume your computer from hibernation.

Note This issue occurs most frequently with portable (laptop or Tablet PC) computers.

CAUSE

This issue may occur when the USB Enhanced Host Controller Interface (EHCI) driver (the driver that allows USB 2.0 functionality) is installed on your computer.

WORKAROUND

To resolve this issue, disable the USB EHCI controller in Device Manager. To do so, follow these steps:
Note When you disable the EHCI driver, you lose USB 2.0 functionality.
By default, you then have USB 1.1 functionality.

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
  3. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
  4. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  5. Right-click the USB EHCI controller, and then click Disable.

Note The name of your EHCI controller may vary.
  6. When the confirmation message appears, click Yes.
  7. Close Device Manager.
