You cannot use e-mail features in OneNote 2003 if you did not install Outlook 2003 (818231)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office OneNote 2003
  • Microsoft Office OneNote 2003, Service Pack 1 (SP1)

SUMMARY

This article describes how Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 is required for Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 e-mail features.

MORE INFORMATION

OneNote is fully integrated with Outlook 2003.

In programs other than Outlook 2003, the E-mail command on the File menu and the E-mail toolbar in OneNote are unavailable. You cannot create an Outlook task from OneNote as the Create Outlook Task feature only works with Outlook 2003.

If you want to e-mail a OneNote file to another user who is using a program other than Outlook 2003, you must save the file and then manually attach it to an e-mail message. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Save As on the File menu to save the OneNote file to your hard disk. This saves the whole section as an .one file that can be attached manually to an e-mail message.

Note If only one page of a section must be e-mailed, click Publish on the File menu. You can save the page as either an .mht file or as an .one file. Only users of OneNote can open .one files, but anyone who has a Web browser can open .mht files.
  2. Attach the file to a new e-mail message in your e-mail program and send the message.
If the user has both Outlook and Outlook Express on the same computer and Outlook Express is configured as the default mail editor, the mail features in OneNote are also unavailable. To correct this problem set Outlook as the default e-mail editor. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. Click the Programs tab.
  4. Set Outlook 2003 as the default e-mail editor.
For more information about sharing OneNote files with other people, click Microsoft OneNote Help on the Help menu, type Share notes with others in the Search box, and then press ENTER.

If you experience this problem in Microsoft Office OneNote Service Pack 1 (SP1), and you have Outlook 2003 installed, verify that you have the following key in the registry:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Outlook.Application\CurVer= Outlook.Application.11
