Money: Performance may be slow after you upgrade to Money 2002, Money 2003, or Money 2004 (818101)

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade Microsoft Money to Microsoft Money 2002, Microsoft Money 2003, or Microsoft Money 2004, performance may be unexpectedly slow.

CAUSE

This issue may occur when the Mis.exe file and the Mnyschdl.exe file are running. Mis.exe and Mnyschdl.exe are programs that are associated with the Microsoft Passport Network features of Money.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use Method 1. If Method 1 does not resolve this issue, use Method 2.

Method 1

Disable some Money features. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In Money, click Options on the Tools menu, and then click the General tab.
  2. Click to select the Turn off sponsorship and shopping links check box.
  3. Click to select the Turn off tooltips in the register check box.
  4. Click to clear the Display charts using patterns check box.
  5. Click to clear the Play sounds check box.
  6. Click the Feedback tab, and then click Options under Personalized Feedback in the Account Register and Portfolio.
  7. Click Do not display personalized feedback, and then click OK.
  8. On the Feedback tab, click Options under Advisor FYI.
  9. Click to clear all the check boxes on the Choose Advisor FYI tab, and then click OK.
  10. Click OK.

Method 2

Turn off Microsoft Passport Network Sign In. To do this, follow the steps that are appropriate for your version of Money.

Note If you turn off the Passport Network features of Money, you cannot use features like Background Banking and Money Scheduler. If you want to continue using these features, do not turn off Passport Network for use in Money.

Money 2003

  1. In Money 2003, click Password Manager on the File menu, and then click Change.
  2. Click Disable Money's Passport Network features, and then click Next.
  3. Select Disable this Passport Network for use in Money, and then click Finish.
  4. When you are prompted, type a new password for Money, and then click OK.

Money 2002

  1. In Money 2002, click Login Lockbox on the File menu.
  2. On the File Password Settings tab, click Change.
  3. In the Change Passports dialog box, click Disable Money's Passport Network features, and then click Next.
  4. Click to select the Disable this account for use in Money check box, and then click Finish.
  5. Click OK to quit the Login Lockbox.
After the Passport Network feature is turned off, the Passport Network Sign-In Wizard may appear the next three times that you start Money.

MORE INFORMATION

Mnyschdl.exe is the Money Scheduler that handles anything that is scheduled in Money, like Bill Reminder and Scheduled Payments. Mis.exe is the Money Information Server COM server. It is directly related to the Passport Network features of Money. If you have turned on Passport Network, Mis.exe starts when you sign in to Money. Mis.exe controls Money's access to the COM ports for the Passport Network features.
