XADM: Error in MAPI32.dll When You Back Up Mailboxes By Using ARCserve 2000 (818042)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5

SYMPTOMS

When you try to back up your Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 mailboxes by using the BrightStor ARCserve 2000 backup program from Computer Associates, you receive a Dr. Watson error message in MAPI32.dll during the backup operation. You can successfully back up the Exchange information store by using the Backup program.

This issue occurs if you try to perform an individual mailbox-level backup (also known as a brick-level backup) in ARCserve 2000.

Note This issue occurs if you perform only a brick-level backup, or if you perform a brick-level backup together with a full Exchange online backup. However, if you perform the brick-level backup to back up 10 or fewer mailboxes, you may not experience this issue.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because ARCserve 2000 uses impersonation to access the individual mailboxes. Exchange 5.5 does not support impersonation in a thread in MAPI. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
