Message Screener Does Not Work When ISA Server 2000 Is Installed on Windows Server 2003 (818034)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you configure the Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000 Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) Message Screener, a message that contains keywords that you have screened may still be delivered to the Inetpub\Drop folder on the SMTP virtual server.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if both of the following are true:
  • You install ISA Server 2000 on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer.
  • The ISA Server is installed as a standalone ISA Server.
  • The SMTP message screener is installed on the SMTP service that is running on another computer on the local area network (LAN).
This issue occurs because the Message Screener cannot read the SMTP Filter configuration information from the ISA Server 2000 computer. Because of this, the message filtering does not work, and all messages are passed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the ISA Server 2000 Required Updates for Windows Server 2003. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
