ISA Server 2000 VPN Tunnel Drops Large Packets as Malformed (818033)

SYMPTOMS

When you create a virtual private network (VPN) tunnel between two Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000 servers, large packets (of 1,500 bytes or more) may be dropped, with the packet filter log file reporting that the dropped packets are malformed.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if you install ISA Server 2000 on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the ISA Server 2000 Required Updates for Windows Server 2003 that are described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000.
