Installation of Hotfix Leaves Temporary Folder on Hyper-Threaded or Multiprocessor Computer (817084)

SYMPTOMSWhen you install certain Windows 2000 Server or Windows XP
hotfixes on a computer with a high-speed hyper-threaded processor or multiple
high-speed processors, a temporary folder may remain in the root folder of one
of the computer's hard disks after the hotfix is installed.CAUSEThis problem occurs as a result of a race condition (timing
issue) in certain versions of the hotfix installer components. The affected
hotfix packages contain installer components that have the following attributes
(or earlier) that are listed in the following table:

RESOLUTIONThis problem is resolved in hotfix packages that contain
hotfix installer components with the following attributes or later that are
listed in the following table:

WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, delete the temporary folder
after you install the hotfix, and then restart the computer.
