System Information Reports that the Operating System is Pending Activation for Limited and Guest Users (817025)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional
  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP1

SYMPTOMS

Guest or Limited users who view the the System Information summary details may always see the Activation Status as "Activation pending (30 days remaining)" on systems that are already activated.

CAUSE

Because only an Administrator can query the activation status, Limited or Guest users always receive the default 30-day grace period information.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
