SYMPTOMS

When you set the number of remote access ports on a computer that is running the Microsoft Windows 2000 Routing and Remote Access service from the Windows Server 2003 Routing and Remote Access utility, the number of ports displayed in the Ports list may not change. This symptom may occur if both of the following conditions exist:
  • You use the Routing and Remote Access utility to configure the ports on a different Windows Server 2003 remote access server.
  • That remote server is in a different domain, or has a different administrator password.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use the Stored User Names and Passwords utility on the computer where you want to administer the remote server, to store your authentication credentials for that remote server:
  1. Click Start, point to Control Panel, and then click Stored User Names and Passwords.
  2. Click Add, and then type the name of the remote server in the Server box.
  3. Type the user account name with permission to administer the remote server in the User name box in the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) or the user principal name (UPN) format. For example, UNC names appear as Server\username, and UPN names appear as user@example.com. For example, type RemoteServer\Administrator, where RemoteServer is the name of the remote access server that you want to administer.
  4. Type the password for the remote administrator account in the Password box, and then click OK,
  5. Click Close.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, configure a Remote Desktop Connection to the remote server, and then use the Routing and Remote Access utility on that server to set the number of remote access ports.
