Real-Time Communication HTTPS Connections Do Not Work When Internet Explorer Enhanced Security is Enabled (816902)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to establish a secure hypertext transfer protocol (HTTPS) connection by using a Real-time Communications (RTC) client program, you are unsuccessful.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if the following conditions are true:
  • The Web proxy server permits HTTPS connections but not HTTP connections.

    -and-
  • The Microsoft Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration is enabled on the server.
Windows Server 2003 includes increased security functionality. As a result, when the RTC client tries to create an HTTPS connection, the Windows operating system sends an extra GET request to look for certificate revocation of the Transport Layer Security (TLS) certificate on the RTC server. This GET request can only be sent by using HTTP proxying.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, enable HTTP proxying on the Web proxy server.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
