PPT2002: Text in Slides that Contain Animations Appear Choppy with Jagged Edges When You View the Slide Show (815994)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2002
SYMPTOMSWhen you view a PowerPoint slide show, text that is
displayed in slides that contain animations may appear choppy with jagged
edges. The jagged appearance is especially noticeable in letters such as O,W,
and R, and in slides that use Arial fonts where the text is white and the
background of the slide is black. Text in slides that do not contain any
animations looks fine, and appears smooth with no jagged edges. CAUSEThe jagged appearance of text is caused by aliasing.
Aliasing occurs when diagonal and curved lines are displayed as a series of
smaller zigzag horizontal and vertical lines. WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, use a different color scheme
for your presentation. Using dark colors for text and light colors for the
slide background can reduce the effect of aliasing and improve the appearance
of text in your slides. STATUS Microsoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.
MORE INFORMATIONAs of March 2003, GDIPlus text rendering has not been
implemented in Office 2002. Anti-aliasing is the name that is used for
techniques that are designed to reduce or rule out this effect. Anti-aliasing
blurs jagged edges by shading the pixels that are along the borders of
graphical elements. Anti-aliasing depends on screens that can display many
colors. Color schemes must be able to handle a wide range of shades between any
two arbitrary text and background colors.
