You Can Use the Llsrpc Named Pipe to Add or Delete Licenses and Create New License Groups (815458)

SYMPTOMS

When you connect to your Microsoft Windows 2000 Server-based server through a null session, you may be able to use the Llsrpc named pipe to add or to delete licenses, and to create new license groups.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Llsrpc named pipe is located under the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\NullSession

. As a result, any null session can access the Llsrpc named pipe.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Note The installation of Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 may remove other entries from the NullSessionPipes key under the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters

Service Pack 4 replaces the existing data in the NullSessionPipes key with the following registry data:

COMNAP COMNODE SQL\QUERY SPOOLSS EPMAPPER LOCATOR TrkWks TrkSvr

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
