A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

The English
version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in
the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in
coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is
converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use
the
Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

Note Because of file dependencies, the most recent hotfix that
contains these files may also contain additional files. You must install
Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) before you install this hotfix.
Note Frequently, this hotfix resolves the problem that is described in
the "Symptoms" section. However, this hotfix does not resolve hardware-specific
problems that can cause these symptoms.
After
you apply this hotfix, you must create a new registry key to enable forced
enumeration when the computer resumes from standby:
- Start Registry Editor.
- Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Usb
- On the Edit menu, click
New, and then click REG_DWORD.
- In the Name box, type
DisableForceEnumeration, and then press
ENTER.
- Double-click the
DisableForceEnumeration value.
- In the Edit DWORD Value box, under
Base, click to select the Decimal check box,
and then under Value data: type
1.
- Quit Registry Editor.
