PRB: Windows Server 2003 System Compatibility Report Does Not List MSDE 2000 (815437)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE), when used with:
    • the operating system: Microsoft Windows 2000
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition

SYMPTOMS

The Windows Server 2003 System Compatibility report lists all the components that are installed on your computer that are not compatible with the Windows Server 2003 operating system. Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (also known as MSDE 2000) is not compatible with Windows Server 2003.

If you run the Windows Server 2003 System Compatibility report on a computer that has MSDE 2000 installed, the System Compatibility report does not list MSDE 2000.

How to Verify System Compatibility

To verify system compatibility, follow these steps:
  1. Start Microsoft Windows Explorer.
  2. Locate, and then double-click the Setup.exe file that is in the Windows Server 2003 installation folder.

    Note You can install Windows Server 2003 from a CD, or from a shared location.
  3. In the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 family dialog box, click Check system compatibility, and then click Check my system automatically.
  4. In the Microsoft Windows Upgrade Advisor dialog box, click to select the No, skip this step and continue installing windows check box, and then click Next.
The System Compatibility report displays the list of items that are not compatible with Windows Server 2003.
