XADM: Newsgroup Postings Remain on the Hard Disk After You Block Them by Using a Transport Event Sink (815413)

SYMPTOMSWhen you configure a transport event sink to prevent the posting of a message to a newsgroup folder, the blocked newsgroup posting (.nws) is still written to the hard disk. CAUSEThis problem may occur when you configure an event sink that implements the OnPost event. It occurs because the .nws file is already written to the hard disk when the OnPost event handler is called.
When the posting is canceled, the users cannot access the message item; however, the .nws file is not deleted from the file system on the computer.
RESOLUTIONHotfix InformationA supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next P1 that contains this hotfix. When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

MORE INFORMATIONWhen you configure an event sink that implements the OnPost event, and you change the NNTPProcessing field in the envelope to a value of 0 (zero) to prevent the posting of messages to a newsgroup public folder, Network News Transport Protocol (NNTP) clients receive a notification. The notification indicates that their posting has been blocked after they try to post a message to the folder, as you expect.
However, when you view the contents of the folder that the client tried to post the message to, you notice that the message has been written to the hard disk as a news (.nws) file. After you install this update, filtered newsgroup postings do not remain on the hard disk.
