OL: Embedded OLE Object Does Not Open in the Preview Pane (815354)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002
  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you receive an e-mail message that contains an embedded OLE object, such as a Microsoft Excel worksheet or a Microsoft Word document, and you try to open that object in the preview pane, it does not open.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design. By default, the preview pane in Outlook is set to read-only. You cannot open objects while you view them in the preview pane. If an administrator enables in-place activation of embedded OLE objects in the Exchange Server public folders through the Outlook Security Features Administrative Package (in the online Microsoft Office Resource Kit), this action has no effect on the functionality of the preview pane.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, open the e-mail message to activate the OLE object embedded in the message.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
