Windows XP SP1 Installation Stops Responding with About 34 Minutes Remaining (815319)

SYMPTOMS

When you preinstall Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows XP Home Edition SP1 (integrated version), Setup may stop responding in GUI-mode setup with about 34 minutes remaining.

CAUSE

There is at least one known cause of this issue: In Windows XP SP1, there is a bug in the Usbhub.sys driver that causes the driver to stop responding when a universal serial bus (USB) mouse or USB keyboard is attached to the system during GUI-mode setup.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, a hotfix has been created for Usbhub.sys. This hotfix also addresses other issues. For additional information about these other issues, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
