You Cannot Enter More Than 128 Characters in the Command Line Field in the Program Properties Dialog Box (815262)

SYMPTOMS

When you create a package and then add a program to the package, you cannot enter more than 128 characters in the Command line field in the Program Properties dialog box.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0 has a maximum defined length for the command line of 127 characters.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix Information

There is a hotfix available that extends the maximum defined length for the command line to 255 characters.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Systems Management Server 2.0 service pack that contains this hotfix.
