OFFX: Test Drive Is Not Removed After You Install Full Retail Product (815135)

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Office v. X for Mac, when you try to start any of the programs, you may receive the following message:
The Office v. X Test Drive has expired. To order your copy of Office v. X click Buy Now. For more information about what features have been disabled please see the Read Me.
If you click Buy Now, a Web page will appear where you can purchase Office X.

If you click OK, the Office X program will start in disabled mode.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when you install Office X by using the Microsoft Office Installer. It does not occur if you use the drag-and-drop method of installation. The installer cannot overwrite certain files in the Microsoft Office X folder on your hard disk if Office v. X Test Drive is already installed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, you must first remove Office v. X Test Drive, and then install the Microsoft Office X program.

Note You must be signed on to the computer as the Administrator to follow these steps.
  1. From your hard disk, open the Applications folder, and then open the Microsoft Office X folder.
  2. Run the Test Drive Remove program. Office v. X Test Drive will be moved to the Trash.
  3. On the Finder, menu click Empty Trash.
After Test Drive has been removed, you will be able to use Office as usual.

If you cannot locate the Test Drive Remove program, follow these steps to remove Office v. X Test Drive:
  1. Insert the Microsoft Office X CD-ROM into your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
  2. Open the Value Pack folder, and then open the Remove Office folder.
  3. Run the Remove Office program. For more information about using the Remove Office program, see the Remove Office Read Me in the Remove Office folder.
After you open the Remove Office tool, follow the instructions on the screen and select all the items to be removed. After the Remove Office tool finishes running, click Empty Trash on the Finder menu to complete the removal process.

Note If you start the Remove Office tool and then quit it before any files are removed, you receive the following message:
Nothing was removed.
Remove Office did not delete any files.
