PPT2002: Presentations with Rotated Graphics Take Longer to Print (814998)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2002
SYMPTOMSWhen you try to print a PowerPoint presentation, you may
experience a long delay before the presentation begins to print. This delay may
be longer if you are printing to a PostScript printer.CAUSEThis issue may occur if your presentation contains several
rotated graphics. The individual file size of the graphics may increase to
forty times the original size. This creates a large spool file that takes
longer to process and print. The file size increases for two different reasons:
- Raster or bitmap images are resampled by the printer driver
before printing. This makes a graphic that is not rotated, although the image
is. The resampling procedure decompresses the image, and this increases the
size of the file.
- Rotated vector-based images are rasterized before being
printed from a PostScript printer. This can increase the size of the graphic to
forty times it original size.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, reduce the image size:
- Select the rotated image.
- On the Edit menu, click
Cut.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste
Special.
- For bitmaps, click Picture (PNG). For
vector graphics, click Picture.
- Click OK.
After you finish this process, the images are no longer
rotated, and this creates a smaller printer spooler file when you print your
presentation.
