SYMPTOMS

When you initially set up your computer to work offline in Outlook, the offline address book is downloaded to your computer.

CAUSE

By default, this behavior occurs on the initial configuration for offline use because the Download offline address book option is selected.

Note Although this is the standard behavior, the fix described in this article makes it possible for you to change the Download offline address book option before you initially set up your computer for offline use in Outlook.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

Part 1: Download and Install the Fix

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
