XFOR: A Message Sent by GroupWise Internet Agent Does Not Display the SMTP Address Correctly (814766)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5

SYMPTOMS

When you send a message from Novell GroupWise to an Exchange Server recipient, the sender's GroupWise address does not appear correctly in the received message. If the recipient replies to the address, the message is not delivered.

For example, the GroupWise address (when you view it in Microsoft Outlook) may look similar to any of the following examples:
  • user_name.[domain.com]
  • WPD=Internet, WPU=user_name, ARI=domain.com
  • WPD=Internet, WPU=user_name, ARI=[domain.com]
  • WPD=domain, WPPO=gwia, WPU=user_name, ARI=domain.com
  • WPD=firsthopdom, WPPO=firsthoppo, WPU=user_name, ARI=domain
You expect the address to look similar to the following address:
  • user_name@domain.com

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the message is received by a GroupWise Internet Agent and if the message is then passed to Exchange Server through the GroupWise API gateway.

The method used to generate the Exchange Server format address is incorrect for messages that are received under this scenario.

MORE INFORMATION

You must also add the following information to the Exchconn.ini file:
[LME-GWISE]
   AssumeARIisInternetDomain=1
   ListofGWIAs=domain.gwia,domain2.gwia,domain3.gwia
AssumeARIisInternetDomain=1 forces the new address code to treat all additional routing information in addresses as the domain part of a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) address. If it cannot be assumed that the additional routing information in addresses is always the domain part of an SMTP address, you can create a list of the GroupWise Internet Agents that are in the GroupWise organization. Replace domain.gwia with the real address of the GroupWise Internet Agents that are in the GroupWise organization. The information listed here allows the new addressing code to determine if a message came through a GroupWise Internet Agent. If a message did come through a GroupWise Internet Agent, additional work is done to extract an SMTP address.
