Deleted Administrative Templates Are Not Restored When You Edit the Policy that References Them (814615)

SYMPTOMS

When you edit a Group Policy object (GPO), the administrative templates may not appear in the Administrative Templates folders under the Computer Configuration or User Configuration nodes.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the administrative template (.adm) files are removed from the policy folder in the Sysvol share of the domain controller after you create the GPO. The template files are not automatically restored when you edit the GPO that referenced them.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, re-create the damaged GPO or restore it from a backup.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
