PRB: Migrate Repository Wizard Does Not Migrate the Repository After You Install SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services Service Pack 3 (814571)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services SP3

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services Service Pack 3 (SP3) and you migrate the Analysis Services Repository from a Microsoft Access database (Msmdrep.mdb) to Microsoft SQL Server database, the Migrate Repository Wizard completes successfully. However, the repository still remains in the Access database.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Analysis Services SP3 encrypts the repository connection string. Therefore, if you have not installed the Windows 2000 High Encryption Pack, the repository connection string is not encrypted.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, install the Windows 2000 High Encryption Pack. To install the Windows 2000 High Encryption Pack, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

To verify that your computer is using 128-bit encryption, perform the following tasks:
  1. In Microsoft Internet Explorer, click About Internet Explorer on the Help menu.
  2. The level of encryption on your computer appears next to the Cipher Strength. If you are using 128-bit encryption, you see the following: Cipher Strength: 128-bit.
  3. Click OK to close the About Internet Explorer dialog box.


To know the current location of the repository for Analysis Services SP3:
  1. In Analysis Manager, right-click the computer that is running Analysis Services, and then click Migrate Repository.
  2. Note the location of repository next to the string Current Repository location.
  3. If the repository is in the .mdb file format (Microsoft Access database), Current Repository location is Program Files\Microsoft Analysis Services\Bin\msmdrep.mdb.

    If the repository is migrated to SQL Server, Current Repository location is Database Repository Database on Server Repository Server
