Deploy Internet Explorer 6 SP1

You can use the following tools to deploy Internet Explorer 6 SP1 to Windows 2000-based computers in a domain environment:
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) 6.

For more information about how to use IEAK 6 to deploy Internet Explorer, visit the following Microsoft Web site to view the IEAK 6 Deployment Guide:
  • The User Rights Deployment (URD) feature of IEAK 6.

Internet Explorer Setup requires that an administrator log on to the computer at the first logon after Setup restarts the computer. The URD feature permits non-administrators to log on to the computer after Internet Explorer Setup is complete. You can use this feature to work around this requirement and deploy Internet Explorer 6 SP1 without a local administrator logon after Setup is complete. For additional information about how to do so, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

  • Internet Explorer 6 SP1 Setup MSI Wrapper.

Internet Explorer Setup requires that you log on to the computer as administrator to run Setup. Use the Internet Explorer 6 SP1 Setup MSI Wrapper with the URD feature of IEAK 6 to work around both of these requirements when you deploy Internet Explorer 6 SP1.

Microsoft recommends that you use the Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1 Setup MSI Wrapper (Ie6sp1gp.exe and Ie6sp1gp.msi) to deploy Internet Explorer SP1. It is intended to help administrators deploy Internet Explorer 6 SP1 to client computers by using the Software Installation component of Group Policy on computers that are running Windows 2000 or later.
