MCMS Serves 500 Error Pages After You Bring the MCMS Server Online (814526)

SYMPTOMS

Because of how Microsoft Content Management Server (MCMS) retrieves resources on specific circumstances that may be because of database connection problems, MCMS may start leaving orphaned threads that congest the memory usage of the servers. After a prolonged period of this activity, the server starts serving 500 error pages.

You may be able to resolve this problem temporarily by using IISRESET to reset the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) server that is running MCMS, but the problem eventually occurs again.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Microsoft Content Management Server 2001 service pack that contains this hotfix.
