Cannot perform a secure dynamic update (814331)

SYMPTOMS

When Group Policy sets Microsoft Windows XP to use secure dynamic updates for use with Active Directory-integrated DNS zones, the DHCP server for the DNS zones rejects the dynamic update for unknown reasons.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if a Group Policy for the local domain server has been set. As a result, all the computers must use a secure connection when they perform a dynamic update from a DHCP server.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
