PRB: "AVC DCD Could Not Connect to Broadcast Services Manager" Error Message, and Then DatacastServer Fails When You Try to Delete a Data Feed (814264)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft TV Foundation Server 1.0

SYMPTOMS

The following scenario describes this problem:
  1. You create any Data Feed, In-band or Out-of-Band (OOB), and you specify the wrong computer name or user name and password, and then you disable the Data Feed because it is for the wrong computer.
  2. The DatacastServer (DS) receives the following error message from the Audio Video Carousel (AVC) Data Carousel Driver (DCD):
"The AVC DCD could not connect to Broadcast Services Manager (BSM). The database connect string in the Basic."
  3. The DatacastServer retries unsuccessfully 10 times, and then fails.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the DS sends delete requests to the DCD. The DCD also fails because the computer name (or the user name and password) is wrong. The DS retries the Delete operation 10 times.

RESOLUTION

Use the correct computer name and user name and password to re-create the DS database (MSTV_DSDB). To do this, run the Ds.sql script that is located in the following folder:

Install Path/Database/DS

Note in the Services Microsoft Management Console (MMC), stop the Microsoft TV Data Broadcast Server before you run the script. After you re-create the MSTV_DSDB file, restart the server.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
