  • Microsoft Broadband Networking Wireless Base Station MN500

SYMPTOMS

You have an MSN point-to-point protocol over an ATM [asynchronous transfer mode] PPPoA connection with an Arescom Modem NETDSL 800, and you cannot connect to the Internet after setup has completed.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you have the Arescom Modem NETDSL 800 and MSN is your service provider. The Domain Name System (DNS) settings may be incorrectly configured.

RESOLUTION

Try the following resolution methods in the order that they appear.

Power Cycle Your Broadband Modem

See the documentation that was included with your hardware for information about how to reset your modem.

You can reset most external modems in the following way: Turn off the power to your modem for 10 seconds, and then turn the power back on.

Reset Your Base Station

  1. Open the Base Station Management Tool, and then click Management.
  2. On the Management menu, click Reset.
  3. On the Reset Base Station page, click Reset. While the reset is in progress, the power light on the base station blinks and then turns orange. When the light is solid (steady) green, the reset is complete.

Change the Wide Area Network (WAN) Settings

  1. Open the Base Station Management Tool.
  2. Click Wide Area Network.
  3. On the Wide Area Network page, change Dynamic to Static.
  4. Enter the following DNS numbers:
    1. IP address: 192.168.1.2
    2. Subnet mask: 255.255.255.252
    3. Default gateway: 192.168.1.1
    4. Primary: 204.255.246.17
