MSBBN: MSN Broadband PPPoA Connection Problem with Arescom Modem NETDSL 800 (814158)

SYMPTOMSYou have an MSN point-to-point protocol over an ATM [asynchronous transfer mode] PPPoA connection with an Arescom Modem NETDSL
800, and you cannot connect to the Internet after setup has
completed.CAUSEThis issue may occur if you have the Arescom Modem NETDSL
800 and MSN is your service provider. The Domain Name System (DNS) settings may be incorrectly
configured.RESOLUTIONTry the following resolution methods in the order that they appear. Power Cycle Your Broadband ModemSee the documentation that was included with your hardware for information
about how to reset your modem. You can reset most external modems in the following way: Turn off the power to your
modem for 10 seconds, and then turn the power back on. Reset Your Base Station- Open the Base Station Management Tool, and then click
Management.
- On the Management menu, click
Reset.
- On the Reset Base Station page, click
Reset. While the reset is in progress, the power light on the
base station blinks and then turns orange. When the light is solid (steady) green, the
reset is complete.
Change the Wide Area Network (WAN) Settings- Open the Base Station Management Tool.
- Click Wide Area Network.
- On the Wide Area Network page, change Dynamic to
Static.
- Enter the following DNS numbers:
- IP address: 192.168.1.2
- Subnet mask: 255.255.255.252
- Default gateway: 192.168.1.1
- Primary: 204.255.246.17
- Secondary: 204.255.246.18
Note If your state is included in the list in the "More Information" section of
this article, use the DNS number that is listed for your state instead of the Primary
address shown in step 4-d.
