HOW TO: Change the Company Name With Custom Maintenance Wizard and Installer 2.0 (814087)

This step-by-step article describes how to change the company name as it is displayed in two places: on the splash screen (when you start an Office XP program) and in the About dialog box (when you click About ProductName on the Help menu in Microsoft Office XP products installed with Windows Installer 2.0). Note Windows Installer 2.0 is included with the Microsoft Windows XP operating system. It may also be present in previous operating systems that have been updated to the new version.

To change the company name on the Help menu, follow these steps. WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. - Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then press ENTER.
- Locate the following registry key, and then click the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\GUID\InstallProperties
where GUID is the 32-digit Globally Unique Identifier specific to your version of Office XP. The following list shows the GUIDs for various versions of Office XP:

- In the Edit String dialog box, type the new company name in the Value data box, and then click OK.
- Quit Registry Editor.

To change the company name on the splash screen, follow these steps:
- Follow the steps in the "Change the Company Name on the Help Menu" section of this article.
- Insert your Microsoft Office XP CD in the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then start Custom Maintenance Wizard.
Note Custom Maintenance Wizard is included with Microsoft Office XP Resource Kit Tools. To obtain and install Office XP Resource Kit Tools, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/xp/appndx/appc00.htm - Click Next, and then click Browse. Locate and click the Windows Installer package file (.msi) located in the root of the Microsoft Office XP CD. For example, the name of the package file for Microsoft Office XP Professional with Front Page is Proplus.msi.
- In the Open dialog box, click Open, and then click Next.
- Click Create a new CMW file, and then click Next.
- In the Name and path for CMW file box, type the name and path of the .cmw file, and then click Next. For example, type C:\ModifyCompanyName.cmw.
- Type the same company name that you used in Step 1, and then click Finish.
- Select the command displayed in the dialog box, press CTRL+C to copy the command, and then click Exit.
- Click Start, click Run, type path\MaintWiz.exe /c C:\ModifyCompanyName.cmw /qb- in the Open box, and then press ENTER. (path is the location of the MaintWiz.exe file.) Typically the MaintWiz.exe file is installed in the C:\Program Files\ORKTools\ORK10\Tools folder. If this is the location on your computer, include the path and the wizard .exe file name in quotation marks to handle the space in the folder name "Program Files". For example, type "C:\Program Files\ORKTools\ORK10\Tools\MaintWiz.exe" /c C:\ModifyCompanyName.cmw /qb-.
