You receive an error message when you open e-mail messages in Outlook 2000 (813742)
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen you open a Rich Text Format (RTF) e-mail message in
Outlook and you are using Microsoft Word as your e-mail editor, a WordMail
document opens. The document contains a blank picture boundary, and the
Edit Picture and Drawing toolbars
appear. You may also receive the following error message: The
operation failed due to network or other communication problems. Check your
connections and try again. When you click OK, the
e-mail opens in Outlook instead of in Word. If the e-mail message
uses plain text or HTML format instead of RTF, you receive the following error
message: This form requires Word as your e-mail editor,
but Word is either busy or cannot be found. The form will be opened in the
Outlook editor instead. You may also receive similar messages when
you try to embed a Word Document object in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft
PowerPoint, or Microsoft WordPad. CAUSEThe Word Document class ID registry data is damaged. This
damage causes OLE calls to use the Word Picture class ID instead.RESOLUTION To resolve this issue, remove the damaged Word Document
data from the registry, and then perform a Detect and Repair operation on
Outlook:
- Close both Word and Outlook.
- Click Start, and then click
Run.
- In the Open box, type
regedit, and then press ENTER.
- In Registry Editor, locate and select the following subkey
in the registry:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00020906-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
- Press DELETE.
- Click Yes.
- Quit Registry Editor.
- Open Outlook.
- On the Help menu, click Detect and
Repair.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the
repair.
