Cannot Save Presentation Broadcast Files to URL Address (813724)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003
For a Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 version of this
article, see
291887. SYMPTOMS When you schedule your presentation to be broadcast and you
try to type a valid Internet address, you may receive one of the following
error messages where URL is a valid Web address in
the form of 'http:// servername/sharename':
'URL' is not a shared
directory. A shared directory should be in the form of
'\\servername\sharename' You cannot use an internet address here. Enter a path that points
to a location on your computer or on the network. CAUSEThis problem may occur if Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003
only accepts UNC (Universal Naming Convention) addresses for the Online
Broadcasting shared folder. WORKAROUND To work around this problem, save your broadcast files to
the UNC path of your server, and then change the invitation e-mail to have the
correct URL address for the Web site on that server. How to Change an Address in Microsoft Outlook- Type the UNC address to the server in the Server
Options dialog box.
- Click OK.
- Click the Schedule Broadcast button.
- When the schedule request e-mail appears, you can edit the
URL text from
'file:///\\servername\sharename\filename.htm'
to
'http://Webserver/sharename/filename.htm'
where the Web address in part corresponds to the UNC location.
