PRB: Narrator Icon Appears in Accessibility Menu of Localized Windows XP SP1 (813619)

SYMPTOMS

After you install a localized version of Windows XP SP1 (for example, Czech) a Narrator icon appears in the Accessibility menu (to find this menu, click Start, point to Programs, click Accessories, and then click Accessibility.

RESOLUTION

This article lists the steps to remove the shortcut for Narrator. These are the general steps in English because the menu names are localized.

To remove the shortcut for Narrator, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, click Accessories, and then click Accessibility.
  2. Right-click Narrator, and then click Delete.
  3. When you receive a prompt to confirm the file deletion, click Yes.

STATUS

The Narrator icon is not supposed to appear in the Accessibility menu on any localized versions of Windows XP Home or Windows XP Professional. Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
