FP2000: Error Message: This Operation Requires Author Permission (813522)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to connect to your Web server with FrontPage, you receive an error message similar to the following:
This operation requires author permission for www.ServerName.com:80

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when Internet Explorer is configured to log on to Trusted Sites as an anonymous user. These settings override the FrontPage settings for logging on to the Web server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:
  1. Start Microsoft Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. On the Security tab, select Trusted Sites.
  4. Click Custom Level.
  5. In the Security Settings box, under User Authentication, click Prompt for user name and password.
  6. Click OK, and then click OK again.
If your Web server is not listed as a Trusted Site, do the following:
  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and then click the Security tab.
  3. Select Trusted sites, and then click Sites.
  4. Type the name of the Web server that you want listed as a trusted site, and then click Add.
  5. Click OK, and then click OK again.
