XADM: Users Receive an "Access Denied" Message When They Try to Access the Portal After You Assign Them a Role (813422)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
  • Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001
  • Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001 SP1

SYMPTOMS

After you add a domain user or group to your portal by using the Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server (SPS) Microsoft Management Console (MMC), when that user or group member tries to access the portal, they are prompted for their credentials 3 times and then they receive an "access denied" message. This problem only occurs in workspaces where the Everyone group is removed.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the permissions that are assigned to the user or the group that you added do not take effect until you stop and then restart Internet Information Services (IIS).

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, restart IIS:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Type iisreset, and then press ENTER.
  3. When IIS has restarted successfully, quit the command prompt.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
