Windows Media Player Tries to Open HTTP://1/ After You Open a Web Page that Requires a License (813403)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows 2000
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows 98 Second Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows Millennium Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows XP

SYMPTOMS

In Windows Media Player, when you open a Web page that requires a license, and then click Yes to acquire the license, Windows Media Player tries to open HTTP://1/ instead of the Web site that you expect.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when both of the following conditions are true:
  • Netscape Navigator 6.x or later is installed, and it is set as your default Web browser.
  • A Netscape Navigator 6.x or later browser window is open.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do one of the following:
  • Close the Netscape Navigator 6.x or later Web browser window.

    -or-
  • Set Microsoft Internet Explorer as your default Web browser. For more information about Microsoft Internet Explorer, visit the following Microsoft Web site: -or-
  • Install Netscape Navigator 4.x, and then set it as your default Web browser.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
